March, Indie Wedding Month

I got an email this week from Gabreial, over at Vintage Indie. She is so sweet; it has been fun getting to know her and chatting with her! She informed me that Vintage Indie is teaming up with Eco-Chic Weddings to declare March, Indie Weddings Month. Their goal is to create a resource for brides to turn to when looking to minimize waste and create their wedding with the idea of using indie designers. A do it yourself attitude while utilizing those famous three R's: reuse, recycle and reduce. Perfect timing for this green season! Visit the guide starting tomorrow, March 1, at indieweddingguide.com

Today, brides are becoming more and more creative in this area as they want to do their part for the environment. Being eco-friendly does not mean one sacrifices beauty or elegance. Do you have eco-friendly wedding ideas? Centerpieces, bouquets, food, clothing...? If so, post them here, I would love to see them!

Have baby, eat pizza

Supposedly Domino's is giving $1,000 in pizza gift certificates to the family who has a baby born today WITH the name Brooklyn (any type spelling will be accepted), in honor of LEAP DAY! In order to win you must produce a birth certificate stating that your child was born the 29th and named Brooklyn and if it has the earliest time of birth for that day you WIN. That's ALL you have to do. Sounds easy to me. Have a baby and pick your child's name to match a Domino's Specialty pizza. All children who meet all the criteria but aren't the earliest, get a pizza party! (Of course Domino's couldn't possibly afford more than one gift of $1,000 in COUPONS for somebody born this Friday named Brooklyn).

Papa John's is also giving away a free, one-topping Papa's Perfect pan pizza to those born on Leap Day. To redeem the offer, the pizza must be ordered online via the Papa John's web site and picked up at their neighborhood Papa John's to verify date of birth.

No babies, and no pizza? How about a trip? That sounds real nice to me.

Save 29% on the 29th!
Only on the 29th, save 29% on hotels in top destinations. Plan an impromptu getaway—and save—when you book on Expedia. Hurry, the sale ends at midnight tonight.

HAPPY LEAP DAY! See you again in FOUR years :)

Sushi for two

The hubby and I spent an evening last weekend making sushi and tempura. It was quite delicious. After the second or third roll I was becoming quite the "roller" and of course James was superb at "tempura-ing." We were real excited to finally use our neat sushi set that was a wedding gift. We are already looking forward to the next "Sushi for two" night.

The funniest thing happened when we finished preparing the food and finally sat down to eat. We turned on Jeopardy (DVR) as usual, and the first category that came up was called "Sushi Culture..." What are the odds?! We thought it was quite amazing. We got every question right in the category. So proud.

A birthday...

A quaint little birthday party for a sweet girl. The evening consisted of homemade personal pizzas, (guests had to twirl and knead their own dough!), pomegranate cider, and regular and mini-sized red velvet cupcakes that were in fact pink velvet cupcakes. :) The recipe for the cupcakes can be found here, while the recipe for the cream cheese frosting can be found here. Delicious! It wouldn’t be a birthday party without any presents and of course, there were many! Fun was had by all.

Oh happy day!

I am real happy to say that I have been officially adopted into the Delightful Blogs family. Yay! I suppose one of the reasons I am most excited is because now I get to see that cute little birdy on my blog everyday! :-) Amazing isn't it? The tiny, little, ridiculous things that make me smile? Well, what silly things make you smile? (Cause I know I am not the only one who is so easily entertained.)

Oh, and if you're feeling especially kind today, visit the Delightful Blogs site; click on weddings & marriage; find rachel trigueiro events and creative design; and rate my blog baby! (But only if you rate it nicely) :-)

Wedding pics... again?

It was a pleasant surprise when I awoke this morning to find some charming words about our wedding on Lynn’s Handcrafted Wedding blog! She expressed my heart and vision for our wedding so well and picked up on all the little details... it was fun seeing it through a different set of eyes! And not that you haven’t seen these pictures, but if you want to check out the post and give Lynn some blogging love, I think that would be great. :)

He did it again...

The hubby and I decided to eat in for V-day this year. We did the same last year, but James did everything so it was a complete surprise for me. It was amazingly romantic, but I wanted to help him out a little this year :) So, he was mostly in charge of cooking and I was in charge of decorating. (Although my decorating couldn’t touch his cooking!)

I thought some candlelight would be appropriate :)

Can you believe it? Two years in a row he cooked my favorite; Alaskan king crab legs. The BEST Alaskan king crab legs I might add, with the BEST "secret" dipping sauce. I expressed to James that I was more than fine with this becoming a yearly tradition. I can hardly wait for next year :)
Oh boy...my mouth is watering.
Our sweet homemade v-day cards. James even made a candle wax seal. It was perfect.
After a delectable dinner, we went to the show to see Fool's Gold :) It was real cute and funny. Then we had delicious chocolate covered strawberries. Life is good :)

"Something" items: Sara

Sweet Sara from the SF bay area sent me an email stating that she personally did not take part in the "something" items for her own wedding, but she wanted to offer a simple suggestion for brides-to-be; one I ashamedly never thought of.

Sara saw a wedding program featured in a magazine that listed the “something” items on the program! How great is that?! Guests are invited to share in the traditions and heirlooms from your family that are special and unique to you! Just think about all the time it takes to pull together those special items and now they will finally be noticed... (and, without you ever having to expose half your leg all because of that small, lacy, blue garter.)

"Something" items: Aron

Yay! Aron was the first to email her "something" items per my request! Thank you thank you! Aron and her husband were married in beautiful Tahoe, June of 2005. We are delighted to share with you her "something" items from that special day. As is the case with some brides, Aron had a few items that crossed-over into multiple categories so that makes it even more fun for us!

Something new: One of Aron's favorite "new" items was her wedding dress. (Isn't this most girls favorite new item? I hope so!)

Something blue: Her garter and her grandmother's blue hankie

Something old: Her grandmother's blue hankie

Something borrowed: Her grandmother's blue hankie

Something new: Her shoes! (of course. How did I forget to put my shoes?!) Ok, now this fascinated me! Aron said she heard about this tradition of having your bridesmaids sign the bottom of your shoes and whoever's name wears off first is the next to be engaged (don't forget, bouquet is next to be married). She said it was fun and she still has the shoes with partial signatures. I LOVE this tradition!! I wish I would have known about this one...I would have definitely participated. Has anyone else ever heard of this wonderful long-lost tradition?

Something borrowed: The necklace she wore was given to her grandmother, who then gave it to her mother. Her grandmother didn't realize Aron had it on until her dad pointed it out to her at the reception and it brought tears to her eyes. (See, this is why we love this tradition).

Something new: Aron's last but definitely not least favorite "new" item was her wedding band. Her engagement ring came with a plain band but as the wedding drew nearer she really wanted a diamond band to go with her engagement ring. Her husband surprised her with it a couple weeks before the wedding. (He was so excited he just could not hide it :-)

"Something" items

Do brides still fancy the “something old, something new” tradition, or is it a thing of the past?

Carrying on the “something” tradition is not only fun, it is an opportunity for brides to show a unique and creative side to their personality in a subtle way. The wonderful thing about living in today’s culture is that the rules of yesterday no longer apply so brides are free to express themselves how they wish. Some brides delight in the idea of wearing a family heirloom passed down from their mother or grandmother, while other brides prefer putting their own twist on things. Instead of wearing an old heirloom one might wear a signature perfume, favorite lipstick, or piece of jewelry from their fiancé while they were dating.

While I love the diversity and uniqueness it brings, I have only one problem with this tradition. How often do you know a bride’s “something” items unless you are in her wedding? Rarely. I find this disappointing as “something” items are typically well thought-out, unique, and special to the bride. So, let’s take a moment right now to share our “something” items for the world to see. And for all you ladies who have had no reason to think of their “something” items, now is a great time to start! Send me an email with your "something" items list ~ what it was or what you want it to be. (Email addy is to the right)

I will start us off...

Something old: After the ceremony I wore my late grandmother's fur. (And thank goodness since it was freezing that night.)

I also incorporated one of her crystal bracelets into my bouquet.

Something new:
Many items could fill this category so again I picked two. First item is my dress. Brand spankin new, not borrowed. :-)

One of my favorite "new" items were the two sets of earrings I wore on our wedding day. The dangly's I purchased myself after searching long and hard for the biggest most perfect earrings. :-) The second pair is the diamond studs above the dangly's; the gift I received from my husband just hours before walking down the aisle. (See first picture)

Something borrowed:
My girlfriends petticoat, not super sentimental but great on the wallet :-)

Something blue:
Again, two items. My tossing garter was blue along with my favorite topaz/diamond ring also from my sweet grandmother.

A little more

As I was updating some spacing issues on the blog this weekend, I decided to add a few (okay, maybe a lot) more wedding photos to the previous post. So go ahead, knock yourself out. Oh, and happy February! I still cannot believe we are already 1 month into 2008. Insane.
